Update

Into the Wilds of 2019

We are quickly rounding the corner on the last lap of 2018 and boy was it a dozy of a year. Though I can’t be too critical as there were some grand moments. Namely the list of books I set out to read and did in fact finish. The plan is to keep that momentum going into the new year along with some added flourishes!

The big thing coming is of course the arrival of regularly scheduled book mail. I have joined the Book of the Month subscription service. This was due in large part of my need to cut down on my want to read list, though I see a mounting TBR list in my future if I don’t quickly get a handle on it.

My first box will arrive sometime in January and within it it will contain Golden State A Novel by Ben H. Winters. It is a dystopian novel dealing with the lawfulness of truth and the criminality of a lie. I have to say I am very excited to receive this one. I have read a Winter’s novel in the past, The Last Policeman, and remember being enthralled with it. He paints a realistic portrait of humanity in grave circumstances that can leave you feeling unsure of everything you know. He is certainly a favorite of mine.

In the same box I’ll be receiving a book that was recommended to me through the Overdue Podcast (love those guys!). Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. This is a modernization of the fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin and it looks fascinating! I have a love of fairy tales and when they are modernized or retold in just the right way it makes my inner bookworm rejoice. I expect this to be a fun romp with strong female characters that I am sure I will fall in love with.

The reason I bring this all up is that I plan on taking lovely photos of the box reveals and contents within each month as they arrive. I will also do this with the sporadic purchases I make through Thriftbooks. I think this will add a nice touch to the blog and will give better visuals to readers who might be intending to purchase any of the books I review. I feel like that is one of my big goals in this endeavor.

So there you have it. That is what I have in store for 2019 for my book reviews. I am still making progress on my own WIP and 2019 will hopefully also produce some amazing updates on that front, but I don’t want to get a head of myself or get my hopes to high.

Until then I wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year!
